Lion & Hyena Ridge Coming to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has announced its largest and most immersive animal habitat expansion in over a decade: the Lion & Hyena Ridge at Edge of Africa. The new 35,000 square foot area will open in 2026, and feature state-of-the-art habitats, enhanced guest experiences, and up-close animal interactions.

Lion & Hyena Ridge Expansion Details

The Lion & Hyena Ridge expansion will be a major update to the Edge of Africa animal area.

According to Busch Gardens, the expansion will include:

  • A grand new entrance into Edge of Africa, complete with a serene water feature and naturalistic Kopje rock formations

  • Four shaded glass viewing structures offering 270-degree views of the habitats

  • Up-close animal interactions and enhanced educational experiences with zookeepers

  • Immersive, ever-changing environments that give animals the freedom to explore, interact, and thrive

Animal care is a top priority at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The animal habits are designed to support the physical, social, and mental well-being of each animal. The design of the habitats will include:

  • Kopje-style rock formations and naturalistic terrain

  • Multiple enrichment zones offering variety and choice for the animals

  • Rotating spaces that allow for dynamic social groupings and behavioral variability
