Destination D23 2025 News Roundup
Disney’s Destination D23 2025 was held from August 29-31 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Throughout the weekend, Disney revealed several updates to the parks, including a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic and an overlay to TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Shanghai Disneyland.
Magic Kingdom
Most of the announcements at Destination D23 focused on the Magic Kingdom theme park.
Cinderella Castle will receive a new color palette with grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold. The update will restore the castle’s classic colors. Since 2020, the castle has featured dark blue roofs and a slight rose pink color, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the animated classic Cinderella.
TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Shanghai Disneyland will receive a limited-time overlay that coordinates with the theatrical release of TRON: Ares. The overlay begins September 15th at Magic Kingdom and on September 16th at Shanghai Disneyland. Like the movie soundtrack, the ride will feature music from Nine Inch Nails. Tron: Ares releases in theaters Oct. 10, 2025.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will be updated with a new introductory scene that features a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic.
Disneyland
Disneyland Handcrafted is a new documentary film from Leslie Iwerks, set to debut this winter on Disney+ and YouTube. A trailer for the documentary was released.
Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is currently undergoing renovation, and Disney has revealed concept art for the updates. The updates will blend “timeless Craftsman design” with “modern Californian sophistication.” One of the highlights is the refreshed outdoor patio with two new fireplaces.
