California’s Great America in Santa Clara, California, is Cedar Fair’s smallest amusement park at only 100 acres. The park opened on March 20, 1976, as Marriott’s Great America. A sister park to Marriott’s Great America, now Six Flags Great America, was built in Chicago and opened on May 29, 1976.

Paramount owned California’s Great America from 1992 to 2006, until Cedar Fair acquired all the Paramount Parks. In 2024, Cedar Fair and Six Flags merged, now operating as Six Flags.

South Bay Shores is Great America’s water park and is included in the price of admission.

🚨 On June 27, 2022, it was announced that California’s Great America will be closed in the next 11 years (source: NBC Bay Area). According to comments made by Six Flags' Chief Financial Officer Brian Witherow at Six Flags' Investor Day 2025, the park is expected to close in October 2027.
